Mysuru: In a humanitarian gesture, the relatives of three of a family, who were killed in a accident near Hirikati gate on Mysuru-Gundlupet Road on Tuesday, donated the eyes of the deceased, bringing a ray of hope in the lives of visually challenged persons, waiting for eye transplant.
Bhagyamma, her son Shashidhar and daughter-in-law Shalini, of Kudlapura village in Nanjangud taluk in the district, were killed on the spot, when a car allegedly hit their two-wheeler. The trio were returning home from Chikkadevammana Betta in H.D. Kote taluk, at the time of the accident.
Shashidhar and Shalini had been married for nine months, leaving their relatives grief-stricken following their untimely death.
Their bodies had been shifted to the mortuary of K.R. Hospital for post-mortem, where the relatives consented to donate the eyes of the deceased to Eye Bank of K.R. Hospital. About 12 visually challenged persons are expected to get their vision, following the transplantation surgery.
C. Gurusiddaiah, the uncle of Shashidhar, who was at the mortuary, told Star of Mysore “We have lost three members of our family. However, they will be lighting the lives of others, with their eyes donated for noble purpose.”
