FasTag for 4-wheelers: Clarification needed

December 27, 2020

Sir,

This is in support of the letter “Toll Plaza-free India: Why make FasTag Mandatory?” by Prof. B.S. Shankara in Star of Mysore dated Dec. 21.

Most of the 4-wheeler users may not be using the Toll Plaza and will be using only within city limits. Or some of the 4-wheeler owners may only use the Toll Plaza twice or thrice in a year for which they have to invest minimum Rs. 500 for a FasTag. They can as well pay at the Toll Plaza and move on.

A clarification is needed, suppose FasTag is taken for a particular car and after a few years, the car may be sold, and a new car is bought. Once again do we have to invest Rs. 500 for a FasTag?

Hope the authorities do not make Fastag compulsory for all 4-wheelers and also link the Fastag with the car Insurance.
