Fire destroys bamboo grove at Kukkarahalli Lake

March 22, 2017

A bamboo grove was destroyed along with a couple of coconut trees at Kukkarahalli Lake yesterday afternoon. Some miscreants set fire to the bamboo grove adjacent to the Lake near the Horticulture Department nursery.

The incident occurred at around 3 pm and was noticed by some public who immediately informed the fire service personnel. As the bamboo growth had dried up, fire spread quickly and by the time fire service personnel arrived, the grove was completely destroyed along with some coconut trees.

Unable to contain the fire, two more fire engines were summoned and the fire was extinguished after four hours. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other parts  of the Lake.

District Fire Officer Gururaju, Shivaswamy, Nanjundaswamy, Karthik Urs, Boraiah and team took part in the operation.

    Dear Readers,
Please plant tree saplings in large numbers in all the vacant parks in and around Mysore and do not give any room for encroachments of tank beds and other areas. Mysore, Coorg and other forests are being destroyed and we are losing forests to timber lobby. Effect is water shortages, in the future. Dont drill borewells, rather encourage ground water collection by rain water harvesting on massive scale at all parks.
Else we will see water shortage to acute levels……in future….we are already in the first lap of making Karnataka into a desert by timber lobby in the name of development
