Flood relief: Not yet received circular on free admission in colleges: Jt. Director of Collegiate Education

August 20, 2019

Mysuru: Even as there are reports that the Government has issued an order asking all Government Colleges to provide admission to students from across the State who were displaced by the floods that ravaged the State, the Department of Collegiate Education here has denied receiving any such order so far.

Speaking to Star of Mysore yesterday, Joint Director of Collegiate Education R. Mugeshappa said that his office has not received any such circular from the Government so far.

However, the Department has written to the Principals of Government First Grade Colleges at Saragur and T. Narasipur in the district, which were partially submerged by floods, seeking a report on the extent of damages, if any, to academic records of students and other college documents.

Pointing out that based on the Principal’s report, the Department will take necessary steps for re-generation of damaged/lost records, Mugeshappa maintained that so far no Government College has received application seeking admission by flood victim students.

Stating that Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar districts in Mysuru region were hit by floods, with Kodagu being the worst affected, he said that the Department will consider applications of all such students based on Government direction and will make provisions for admission at a Government College of their choice. However, most students from Kodagu, the worst affected district, prefer Mangaluru for Mysuru, he added.
