Theatre and Folk Art Training Camp concludes

Mysuru: “An appeal would be made to the State Government to organise a Folk Festival this time also in Talakad during Dasara Festival,” disclosed T. Narasipur MLA Ashwin Kumar.

He was speaking at the valedictory of Theatre and Folk Art Training Camp organised by Gauthama Shaikshanika mattu Samskrutika Seva Trust at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises here on Sunday.

Ashwin Kumar recalled that the Folk Festival held during Dasara last year in Talakad was a grand success and added that he would apprise the Government to stage the programme again which would give an opportunity to folk artistes of old Mysore Province to showcase their talents.

University of Mysore (UoM) Fine Arts College Principal Dr. C. Ramaswamy appreciated the interest shown by the students in extra-curricular activities through participation in the camp.

UoM Assistant Professor Dr. H.P. Jyothi contended that folk art was on the verge of extinction which should be revived.

Presiding over the programme, folk scholar Dr. P.K. Rajashekar said that there are over 500 forms of folk art which collectively is a rich cultural wealth. He pointed out that folk music is unique which does not need an accompanying instrument as support.

Trust President Krishnamurthy Talakad said that 40 students underwent training at the camp featuring four variants of folk dances and added that the free camp is being organised by the Trust every year. Certificates were presented to participating students.

Unilog Content Solutions Associate Vice-President S.N. Raju and others were present.
