Silver Jubilee of State Political Science Teachers Assn.

Mysore/Mysuru: A three-day 21st Conference and Silver Jubilee celebrations of Karnataka State Political Science Teachers Association has been organised under the joint aegis of Department of Studies in Political Science and Public Administration, University of Mysore, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, Department  of Studies in Political Science and Research, Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and Karnataka State Political Science Teachers Association, from tomorrow (Apr. 23) at KSOU’s Cauvery auditorium in Mukthagangothri campus in the city.

The main theme of the Conference is ‘Review of Political Science: State, Society, Market and Person’ and discussion on relevant themes centred around System of the State, Social Changes, Market Power and The Role of Persons among others.

Former Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar will inaugurate the Conference at 10 am tomorrow. District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will preside. Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar and erstwhile Mysore Royal Family Member Pramoda Devi Wadiyar will participate as the chief guests. 

Retired Professor Valerian Rodrigues from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, will deliver the keynote address.

‘Karnataka Journal of Politics’ a professional newsletter will be released on the occasion. The first edition will be released by UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath and second edition by KSOU VC Dr. Sharanappa V. Halse. 

In the first session, Prof. H.M. Sanjeev Kumar from Delhi University, will speak on the topic ‘United Nations in The Contemporary Global System’. KSOU Dean (Retd.) Prof. Chambi Puranik will chair the session. Cultural event will be held at 7 pm.

On Apr. 24, Vice-President of Nitte Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, Prof. Sandeep Shastri, also a Political Analyst, will speak on ‘Strengthening of Federal System in Contemporary India.’ Prof. M. Umapathy will chair the session along with Prof. P.L. Dharma.

On Apr. 25, a special session with politicians is scheduled from 10 am to 12 noon, under the chairmanship of Prof. H.M. Rajashekar. MLA G.T. Devegowda will speak on ‘Electoral Politics’; MLA S. Suresh Kumar on ‘House Sessions’; MLA  A.R. Krishnamurthy on ‘Politics in Reserved Constituencies’ and Vice-Chairperson of Karnataka State Guarantee Implementation Authority Dr. Pushpa Amarnath on ‘Women’s Politics’.

During the third session (12.15 pm to 1.45 pm) Ramon Magsaysay Awardee P. Sainath will speak on ‘Politicisation of Agricultural Crisis and India’. Prof. K.C. Basavaraju (retd.) will chair.

The valedictory address will be delivered by journalist, activist and writer Shivasundar. Founder-President of Karnataka State Political Science Teachers Association Prof. R.L.M. Patil will preside. UoM Registrar Prof. M.K. Savitha and KSOU Registrar Prof. S.K. Naveen Kumar will be the chief guests.

Director of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre Prof. S. Narendra Kumar, KSOU Political Science retired Professor K.J. Suresh, UoM Political Science retired Professor G.T. Ramachandrappa and Founder-Secretary of the Association Prof. Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, will be the special guests.
