Frequent burglaries, thefts, extortion create panic among Mysureans

Mysuru: Increase in cases of burglaries, vehicle thefts, chain snatchings, extorting cash and valuables by waylaying people on lonely roads has created panic among Mysureans.

Though the crime rate had come down in 2017, when compared to 2016, according to the Police, there have been more than 15 cases of vehicle thefts, house burglaries, extortion etc., reported under various Police limits in city during the last month.

Vehicle thefts: In Devaraja Police limits last month, there were four cases of vehicle thefts reported. On Jan. 5, miscreants had stolen a Hero Honda bike of one Sanju, parked in K.R. Hospital premises, a TVS moped of one Parshwanathaiah, parked in JK Grounds and a Hero Honda bike of Sannappa parked in K.R. Hospital premises were stolen on Jan. 20. A Suzuki bike belonging to Pradeep Kumar parked in Cheluvamba Hospital premises was stolen on Jan. 29. A Bajaj Pulsar bike of one Vinod Raj, parked in front of his house in Sunnadakeri was stolen in K.R. Police limits.

On Jan. 16, Mohan Lal, a resident of Dodda Vokkalageri coming under Lashkar Police limits lost his Hero Honda Splendor bike which was parked in front of his house. Geetha lost her Honda Activa scooter on Jan. 30 at K.G. Koppal in Saraswathipuram Police limits, Eshwar’s TVS Jupiter scooter was stolen near Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha in Lakshmipuram Police limits on Jan. 7, Mariamma lost her Honda Pleasure scooter on Jan. 19 at Maharaja’s College Ground, on Jan. 6, Kiran Kumar lost his Bajaj Pulsar bike at Mahadeshwara layout in Vijayanagar Police limits and Mallesh lost his scooter on Jan. 21 at  Basavaraja Circle.

In Udayagiri Police limits, miscreants made away with a Chevrolet Tavera vehicle of Touhir Pasha, a resident of Nehru Nagar on Jan. 19 and a Maruti Omni Van of Nannaiah of Rajendranagar was stolen on Jan. 6.

In most of these cases, the vehicles were parked in front of the houses.

House Burglaries: House burglars who used to strike at locked houses under the cover of darkness are now striking in broad daylight, creating panic among the residents.

In Vijayanagar Police limits on Jan. 6, burglars who gained entry into a locked house belonging to Sridhar, have decamped with gold and silver and other valuables worth about Rs. 5 lakh. On Jan. 15, burglars have decamped with gold ornaments and diamond earrings from the house of Srikanth.

In Lashkar Police limits, burglars have decamped with gold ornaments worth about Rs. 3.5 lakh from the house of Rahul at Halladakeri on Jan. 15. Gold ornaments and silver articles worth about Rs. 3 lakh were burgled from the house of Ranganath in Kuvempunagar on Jan. 13, Rs. 3.5 lakh worth gold ornaments burgled in the house of Chikkalingaiah in Vivekanandanagar.

On Jan. 24, miscreants had broke open a hundi (offering box) at the Shasti temple in Siddalingapura and had decamped with about Rs. 20,000 offered by devotees.

Though the Police are taking all steps to prevent such crimes, such incidents are still taking place almost daily, the public said and have urged the Police to initiate effective measures to prevent them.
