After a gap of two years…: Golden Throne kept for public viewing at Palace

September 24, 2017

Mysuru: The gems-and-diamond-studded Golden Throne of the erstwhile rulers of Mysore Kingdom, safeguarded by the royal family is now open for public viewing and will be on display until the conclusion of Dasara festivities.

The throne, a symbol of power, majesty and prestige, was covered with a white cloth after it was assembled on Sept. 15. The process of assembling the iconic throne was done by a 15-member select team of artisans from Gejjagalli in Mysuru taluk. The parts of the Golden Throne were kept under tight security at the Palace strong room before it was taken out for assembling.

It may be recalled that the Golden Throne was not kept for public display since about two years leaving tourists and visitors disappointed. Last year, the then Mysore Palace Board Director B.G. Indiramma landed in a controversy for trying to remove the white cloth that covered the Throne.

Those who want to view the iconic Golden Throne should purchase the ticket by paying Rs. 50 extra to the existing entry fee of Rs. 50 at the ticket counters and a red band is tied around their wrists which should be shown to the security personnel.

After Dasara, the throne will be dismantled in an elaborate procedure and returned to the strong room, where it will be locked and secured.
