Girl ends life after lover allegedly refuses to marry her

Case registered against eight persons; Departmental enquiry ordered against ASI for refusing to register complaint

Nanjangud: A 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after the youth she was in love with refused to marry her. The girl ended her life by hanging self and the incident has come to light lately.

A case has been registered against eight persons and a Department enquiry has been ordered against the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Hullahalli Police Station, for negligence when the girl had come to the Police Station to lodge a complaint.

The girl, belonging to a village in the taluk is learnt to have been in love with a youth of the same village and both had physical relationship. Later, when the youth refused to marry her, the girl knocked the doors of Hullahalli Police Station and when she went there to lodge a complaint, ASI Shivaraj is said to have refused to receive her complaint.

The youth, on learning that the girl had gone to the Police Station to lodge a complaint against him, went to the girl’s house along with others and had created ruckus in front of the house. Depressed over this, the girl ended her life at her house on Oct. 5. But the girl’s family members did not file a Police complaint and had performed her last rites. But when the family members were cleaning the house to perform the 11th day death rituals, they found the death note written by her, it is learnt.

The girl’s grandfather, who took the death note, met Nanjangud Rural Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar on Saturday and lodged a complaint following which cases of sexual assault and abetment to suicide were registered against eight persons including the girl’s lover at Hullahalli Police Station.

Police said that while the girl’s lover will face charges of sexual assault, the remaining persons will face charges for creating ruckus in front of the girl’s house which led to her extreme step.

As the girl’s grandfather, in his complaint, has stated that the ASI had refused to receive the complaint when the girl had gone to the Police Station, Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Chethan, who visited Hullahalli Police Station, said that a Departmental enquiry will be held against ASI Shivaraj for showing negligence and action would be taken. Nanjangud Dy.SP Govindaraju, Nanjangud Rural Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar and Hullahalli Inspector Raghavendra Khatari were present during the SP’s visit.
