‘Govt. should help pensioners’

October 23, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 23- As part of a lecture series organised for senior citizens on various welfare subjects by the Elder Citizens Council, Mysuru, Prof. K.C. Basavaraju delivered a talk on the topic ‘Pensioners lifestyle experiences in the day to day changing economic conditions’ at Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavan in Jayalakshmipuram.

Prof. Basavaraju, as a pensioner of Mysore University and a farmer leader, narrated his own experience and several instances where the pensioners have been facing difficulties in leading their life.

The Bank employees were fooled by Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) with a lumpsum offer, but at the same time the rate of interest earned from Bank deposits, the main attraction of earning income after retirement, was reduced.

As the National Pension Scheme (NPS) is not popular and beneficial, several retirees have been demanding Old Pension Scheme (OPS), about which the Government is yet to take a decision.

Apart from pension, the pensioners are worried about their health, medicinal expenses, which take away major portion of pension as they age, for which the Government should come to their rescue, he appealed.
