March 25, 2017

Bill gets unanimous nod in Assembly

The Legislative Assembly in a historic decision unanimously passed the Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill 2016, yesterday giving tenants, who should be agricultural labourers, living in groups or colonies (Hattis and Thandas) ownership of the houses in new revenue villages.

Accordingly Lambani Thandas, Gollara Hattis, Vaddara Hattis, Nayakara Hattis and others will get their new revenue village tag.

About 240 tribal hamlets would come under the revenue village tag which would go a long way in protecting the rights of the poor and oppressed .

The new bill was tabled by Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, which would enable the agriculture labourers get possession certificates of the houses they have occupied.

However they should be living in those villages prior to Jan. 1, 1979, to become eligible for ownership.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Siddharamaiah hailed the  decision as getting freedom and would be a boon to the eligible poor agriculture labourers.

Once the Deputy Commissioners officially create the new revenue  villages, the possession certificates would be issued to the beneficiaries, explained Kogodu Thimmappa.
