Heaven lies under the feet of a mother

August 13, 2017

Sir,

KBG’s Abracadabra titled  ‘MOTHER’ published in Star of Mysore dated Aug. 8 was thought-provoking. I had tears in my eyes when I read that article.

Two incidents have been narrated in the article. One is the outcome of materialistic approach towards our life under the influence of Western culture and the other incident of K.B. Ganapathy, which is an outcome of “Indian culture” under the influence of one’s religion.

I remember a similar incident which I had read few years back. At that time too I had tears in my eyes…

A lady, who was a widow, was living alone in an apartment in London. Her only daughter, who was married, was living in a far off place. She used to visit her mother once in a year for X-mas.

One day, the neighbours’ found smell emanating from her apartment. They immediately reported the matter to the Police. The Police broke open the door and found the decomposed body of the lady in the bathroom and her dog was found dead at the door of the bathroom.

After reading the incident, a question came to my mind, WHO IS MORE FAITHFUL? The dog to whom the lady fed some pieces of bread and biscuits or the daughter for whom she underwent a lot of pain before giving birth to her, who brought her up and educated her to live a happy and prosperous life?

The materialistic approach towards our life has damaged not only our relationship with our kith and kin but also our relationship with our neighbours. This has made MAN WORST THAN THE BEAST.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) expressed the greatness of mother in one single sentence. He said: “HEAVEN LIES UNDER THE FEET OF A MOTHER”.
