City’s reputed music sabha Ragavaibhava is bringing a grand Hindustani vocal concert by Pt. Sanjeev Abhayankar for Republic Day (Jan. 26) at 6 pm at Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavana, JLB Road, Mysuru. He will be accompanied on the harmonium by Pt. Vyasmurti Katti and on the tabla by Pt.Yogish Bhat.
Sanjeev Abhayankar, an artiste of international acclaim, hails from the Mewati Gharana. He is an inspiration for the young generation. With his magical singing, he has attracted the young generation towards the Indian classical music. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he has assumed the mantle of a role model of dedication, hard work, patience and perseverance.
Sanjeev started learning music at the age of eight from his mother Shobha Abhayankar, a musicologist and teacher of the Mewati Gharana. Later he learned from Pt. Gagadharbua Pimpalkhare and Pt.Jasraj.
A child prodigy, Sanjeev has recorded over 60 solo albums. He won the National film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1999 for his song ‘Suno Re Bhaila’ from the Hindi film Godmother and also the Kumar Gandharva National Award 2008 from the Government of Madhya Pradesh for sustained excellence in the field of Classical arts.
Pt. Vyasmurti Katti was born to Anandteerthacharya and Prema Katti in a family of Vedic scholars. His early music education began under his mother and later under Pt. Ramacharya Bagewadi of Solapur and Pt. Indudhar Nirodi.
A highly sought after harmonium player, Vyasmurti has accompanied luminaries such as Dr. Gangubai Hanagal, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Pt. Ramrao Naik. After an 8-year career in IT, Pt. Katti left the industry to pursue his passion for music full-time.
Pt.Yogish Bhat is a Hindustani classical percussionist who specialises in tabla and is recognised as one of the finest tabla artistes in India. Yogish was born to a music devoted family at Sagar, Shivamogga. His tabla lessons began at the tender age of four from Vidwan Bhaskar Hedge and later he had his training from Pt. Ravindra Yavagal and Kiran Yavagal. Yogish’s keen interest in the Karnatak Tala system has initiated him to learn the same from K.U. Jayachandra Rao.
