Hospital hardware heat

February 20, 2017

In a layman’s perception treating ailments of human patients has witnessed a sea change with symptomatic guesswork yielding place to diagnostic evidence. However, while the former approach to medical practice was shared to a great extent by both indigenous traditional systems including Ayurveda as well as Unani and Allopathy system, the latter approach has been marked by scientific research on a scale world over that is well-nigh impossible to visualise. The resultant technological advances and emergence of diagnostic tools, apart from equipment in therapeutic stages are even more awesome. Pursuit of knowledge through exploring outer space, starting from firing rockets and cracking the challenge of orbiting the earth, followed by manned space vehicles culminating in the 1969 success of Man-on-Moon and lately successful Mars Mission, is conceded as the biggest contributing factor in the emergence of the presently available medical equipment.

Pathological examination of blood, stools, sputum and also tissues of organs, as aid to near-perfect diagnosis of the diseases, disorders and various ailments bugging human populations continue to hold sway, although the equipments in use have stolen a long march over the humble stethoscope, microscope, endoscope and so on. Mysuru is catching up fast with other cities in the creation of modern medicare infrastructure.

We are in an era of medicos being identified by their narrow specialities of assuaging the sufferings of their patients and hospitals being established as super speciality medical institutions, Mysuru too having earned a place in the country’s map of such medicos and institutions. Although belatedly, the government has begun to emulate the corporates and well-established managements of super-speciality hospitals in creating modern facilities ostensibly for meeting the medicare needs of aam janata, particularly in the economically weak segments of the population, including Mysuru.

All seems well with the present scenario of meeting the needs of sickness-care, at least in urban spaces. However, the cost of hospitalisation continues to be within the reach of small fraction of the population. The managements of hospitals in private sector are nowhere near dousing the heat of hospital hardware price tag. Maybe, the affluent service organisations can extend their bounty for more patients to access modern medicare facilities.
