With Javagal Srinath in, Clean City initiative gains momentum

November 28, 2017

Mysuru;  The clean city initiative launched by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), to regain the top spot as the cleanest city in the country, gained momentum with MCC organising a public awareness jatha in Wards 25 to 29 coming under Zone 5, here this morning.

Awareness Jatha was launched by MCC Cleanliness Ambassador Javagal Srinath at the Basavanagudi Park in Hebbal.  Srinath, accompanied by Yoga Champ and Cleanliness Ambassador Kushi Hemachandra, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, Corporators and school children went around all five wards and distributed pamphlets door-to-door  in an effort to create awareness on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Prior to the jatha, Javagal Srinath also administered the cleanliness oath to the students and members present who promised to make sure to segregate the dry waste at homes.

Speaking on the occasion, Javagal Srinath said that cleanliness should be our lifestyle and ensure that our surroundings are kept clean.

Kushi, who spoke on the occasion, said Swachh Bharat was Mahatma Gandhi’s dream and added that the initiative was launched by PM Narendra Modi to mark Gandhiji’s Birth Anniversary. She added that it was not only PM’s responsibility but also the duty of every citizen to make sure that the dream of clean India was realised. “Mysuru, which won the cleanest city title twice, last year ended up in 5th place. It is important to ensure that the city becomes the cleanest city again”, said Kushi.

Former MLC D. Madegowda, Corporators K.T. Cheluvegowda, Mahadevappa and Shivanna, Health Officer Dr. Nagaraj and others were present.
