Mayor inaugurates Vachanakarara Jayantotsava
Mysuru: All Jayantis of Vachanakaras must be celebrated jointly to spread the message of a united society, said writer Paramashiva Nadubetta.
He was speaking at Vachanakarara Jayantotsava organised by the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department and District Dalit Vachanakarara Jayantotsava Committee at Kiru Rangamandira in Kalamandira here on Thursday.
If the Jayantis of Vachanakaras are celebrated separately, there will be a division among Vachanakaras and their followers. If the Jayantis are jointly celebrated in one platform, all the Vachanakaras can be revered together and their message can be spread in a unified manner, he opined.
There are over 200 Vachanakaras anwd prominent among them are Madara Chennaiah, Madara Dhoolaiah, Dohara Kakkaiah, Samagara Haralaiah, Urilinga Peddi, Kambali Nagideva, Gudde Guddevva, Aidakki Lakkamma and Durgadavva.
These Vachanakaras have contributed immensely for the growth and development of Vachanas and there is a need of bringing to light many more Vachanakaras who have not been highlighted so far, he said.
Mayor B. Bhagyavathi inaugurated the programme by showering flower petals on the portraits of Vachanakaras.
Taluk Panchayat President Kalamma Kemparamaiah, Assistant Commissioner Shivegowda, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mysuru President Y.D. Rajanna and others were present during the celebrations.
