JD(S) will not contest bypolls: H.D. Kumaraswamy

March 13, 2017

“JD(S) will not be fielding its candidates for the upcoming Nanjangud and Gundlupet bypolls,” said JD(S) State President and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy here this morning.

Addressing press persons, he said that the decision was taken following an internal survey taken up by the party in both the constituencies which said that JD(S) would only emerge second and the chances of winning was less.

He also stated that the election would only benefit BJP and he didn’t want his party to fight the elections to benefit the other party. “By the way BJP is heading, I feel that Karnataka will witness Assembly elections in the next six months. So, we have decided not to field our candidates for the bypolls,” he added.

However, JD(S) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has called for the meeting of MLAs and MLCs  of the region on Mar. 15 which is expected to announce the same decision.
