JSS gets nod for JSS School of Medicine in Mauritius

October 13, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 13 (MTY&BNR)- The JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mauritius (JSSAHERM), has got accreditation for its MBBS Programme by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Mauritius, and the formal approval for the establishment of the JSS School of Medicine at Vacoas, Mauritius.

Announcing this at a press meet at Suttur Mutt in city this morning, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) Pro-Chancellor Dr. B. Suresh said, this marks a significant step in the international journey of JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSS MVP) — one of India’s largest and most respected educational trusts with over 360 institutions across India and abroad — and represents the realisation of its mission to provide quality, affordable and globally relevant higher education beyond the shores of India.
Under the spiritual leadership of Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, JSS Mahavidyapeetha has consistently expanded its educational mission globally — from India to Dubai, Mauritius and the United States of America, he said.

Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, who too spoke, said that in 2006, as former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, through a columnist, had asked JSS to start educational institution in Mauritius, we had started a Skill Programme there, after which we had even started Engineering Course with VTU affiliation. After a few years, as the UGC found that VTU had not obtained the required permission from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to operate outside India, it was stopped. However, now the Government of Mauritius has given formal approval for the establishment of the JSS School of Medicine at Vacoas, the Seer added.

Established in 2006, the JSS Academy, Mauritius, was the first private higher education institution in Mauritius to offer engineering programmes. Over the years, it has expanded its academic portfolio to include a wide range of disciplines beyond engineering. Managed by JSS Education Foundation Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, under the aegis of JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSS MVP), the Academy embodies the vision of delivering quality education at an affordable cost to a global community.

Situated on a sprawling 8-acre campus at Bonne Terre, Vacoas, with a built-up area of 14,689 sq. m, the Academy houses state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, workshops and residential facilities that meet international academic and regulatory standards.

In alignment with the vision of the Swamiji and the global expansion plans of JSS MVP, the Academy established the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mauritius (JSSAHERM) as a degree-awarding institution registered with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2018 — a manifestation of the enduring vision to create a world-class educational hub in the Indian Ocean region.

The launch of the MBBS programme now marks the next transformative milestone in this journey — designed to serve the healthcare and human capital needs of Mauritius, Africa and Asia.

The JSS Medical College, Mysuru — ranked among the top medical institutions in the country and part of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) — brings decades of experience in delivering competency-based, research-driven medical education and will mentor this programme. This expertise forms the academic backbone of the Mauritius MBBS programme.

The MBBS programme at JSSAHERM has been designed in alignment with the National Medical Commission (NMC), India, ensuring equivalence and familiarity for Indian and international students. Graduates will also receive structured orientation and preparatory support for clearing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in India and other global licensing examinations.

Admissions

Admissions for the first batch of MBBS students are expected to commence in November 2025. The institution will also pursue international accreditations in line with its goal of becoming a globally benchmarked medical education centre in the Indian Ocean region.
