Kalabhivardhana: 10-day cultural extravaganza from tomorrow

Mysuru: Kala Sandesha Prathisthana with grant-in-aid by Ministry of Culture, has organised Kalabhivardhana-2018 from Jan. 22 to 31 at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road and at Jaganmohan Palace auditorium in city.

Dr. Sarvamangala Shankar, Vice-Chancellor, Music and Performing Arts University, will inaugurate the cultural extrvaganza tomorrow at Nadabrahma at 5.30 pm.

Dr. R. Sathyanarayana, Musicologist and K.V. Murthy, Art Patron, will be the chief guests. On the occasion, Sangeeta Kalottunga title will be presented to  Padma Bhushan Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan, renowned Classical Music exponent. Gayana Gandharva Vid. Dr. R.S. Nandakumar will preside.

Vocal recital: The inauguration will be followed by Karnatak vocal recital by Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan  at 7 pm. He will be accompanied by  Vid. Ambur Padmanabhan on mridanga,  Vid. A.P. Srinivas on violin and Vid. G.S. Ramanujam on ghata.

Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan is a veteran Karnatak and Hindustani vocalist, an inimitable Mridanga Maestro, a Guru of Gurus, a pioneer of Karnatak Jazz and Fusion music, a research scholar and a voice expert.

Born in Trippunithura of Kerala in a family of more than 200 years musical heritage who adorned the courts of Royalties, he is the 5th generation of a musical     lineage with eminent stalwarts such as Muthuswamy Bhagavathar, Ramaswamy Bhagavathar, Gopalakrishna Bhagavathar and his father Vishwanatha Bhagavathar.

Discourse: Jan. 23: Bharathadhvaya Foundation in collaboration with Kala Sandesha Prathisthana has organised a discourse on “Our Cultureat Cross Roads” by Dr. Pavagada Prakash Rao, Nadabrahma, 6 pm.

Tatvapada: Jan. 24: Abhyudaya Samskruthika Vihara will present Tatvapada by Vid. Kiragasuru Rajappa and his disciples at 6 pm. This will be followed by Thogalugombeyata by Vid. Ramachandru and team – Nadabrahma, 7 pm.

Folk dance:  Jan. 25: Janapada Kala Sinchana has organised Dollu Kunitha by Mylaralingeshwara Dollu Kunitha Kalathanda at 6 pm; Kamsale by Malayamadeshwara Beesu Kamsale Nruthyathanda – Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium, 7 pm.

Jan. 26: Chiranthana Rangapeeta has organised a presentation on Journey of Theatre Forms by Vidu. Netra Raghunandan at 6 pm;  Staging of drama Bhagavad Ajjukiyam by Arivu Ranga – Jaganmohan Palace – 7 pm.

Yakshagana : Jan. 27: Karavali Kalaniketana has arranged Yakshagana Tala Maddale Krishna Sandhana by Vid. Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj and Vid. K. Krishnakumar Acharya  at 6 pm; Ekavyakthi Yakshagana  Dakshayini by Vid. Manjunath N. Puttur – Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium, 7.45 pm.

Jan. 28: Swarashraya Gana Sabha has organised a violin concert by Pruthvi Bhaskar and C.V. Shruthi at 5.30 pm. They will be accompanied by Vid. G.S. Ramanujam on mridanga and Vid. V.S. Ramesh on ghata; Karnatak music concert by Vid. Manasa Nayana – Jaganmohan Palace, 6.30 pm. He will be accompanied by Vidu. Adithi Krishnaprakash on violin, Vid. H.L. Shivashankara Swamy on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata.

Jan. 29:  Ekatha Nruthyalaya will present Bharathanatya by Vidu. Y. Akshatha; Accompanists – Nattuvanga: Vidu. Anusha Varun, Vocal: Vidu.  Deepthi Srinath, Mridanga: Vid. Hanumantha Raju, Violin: Vid.  Narayan – Nadabrahma, 6 pm.

Mohiniyattam by Vidu. K.P. Shruthi; Vocal: Vid.  Vinay Maanya, Mridanga: Vid. V.R. Chandrashekar, Flute: Vid. Hemmige Venugopal – Nadabrahma, 7 pm.

Bharathanatya by Vidu. M.S. Archana Bhat; Nattuvanga: Vidu. Nayana Shivram, Vocal: Vidu. Deepthi Srinath, Mridanga: Vid.  Shashi Shankar, Flute: Vid. Rakesh – Nadabrahma, 8 pm.

Jan. 30 (venue: Ganapathi Temple, Ramakrishnanagar I Block): Sankeerthana Sabha  to present “Kanakadasa’s Mohana Tarangini”  Gamaka Rupaka by Vid. K. Ramachandra, Dr. Jyothi Shankar (including Concept & Direction), Vidu. Annapurna Nagendra, Vidu. Vasantha Venkatesh, Vidu. Dharithri Anandarao, Vidu. Sathyalakshmi Ananthapadmanabha; Violin: Vid. Tandavamurthy, Tabla: Vid. Kumar – 6 pm.

Jan. 31: Conferring Natya Kalottunga Award to Padma Bhushan and Akademi Ratna Dr. Kanak Rele, acclaimed Mohiniyattam danseuse. Swami Atmajnanandaji, President, Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, will grace the occasion; Prof. George S. Paul, Senior Art Critic, Kerala, will be the chief guest; Karnataka Kala Tilaka Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy  will preside –  Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium,  5.30 pm.

This will be followed by Mohiniyattam recital by Dr. Kanak Rele and her disciple Saji Menon, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Awardee; Accompanying artistes: Nattuvanga: Vid. C. Gopala Krishnan, Vocal: Vid.  M.S. Gireesan, Mridanga: Vid. Dakshinamurthy Pillai, Edakka: Vid. Nanda Kumar, Violin: Vid. Narayana – Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium, 7 pm.

Dr. Kanak Rele, a world renowned classical dance exponent as well as a scholar of Indian culture, is the Founder-Director of Nalanda Dance Research Centre and  Founder-Principal of Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai. Born in Gujarat, she  spent her childhood in Santiniketan and in Kolkata.
