KSIC to start new Silk Weaving Unit in city

July 31, 2017

Mysuru: Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) will soon commence works for the construction of a new Silk Weaving Unit, said KSIC Chairman and MLA M.K. Somashekar, here this morning.

Addressing press persons at Hotel Siddharta, he said that the demand for Mysuru silk sarees had increased over the past few years, which had prompted the KSIC to come up with new weaving unit to meet the increasing demand.

“The new unit will have a total of 60 power looms initially, which would be increased to 100. This will also provide employment opportunities to 200 people on outsource basis. KSIC will also make provisions to generate electricity using solar power for the new unit,” he added.

Somashekar said that the new unit was being set up at a cost of Rs. 24.07 crore with Rs. 5 crore being released by the State Government. “We have been using latest machineries for silk weaving and the company aims to manufacture 2,600 additional sarees per month,” he added.
