Sir,
It was heartening to see the use of metric units in Star of Mysore dated Mar.26 headlines in red to describe the wastage of water. Also, very rightly, alongside a table converting cusecs to litres was given. Hope the oft-used TMC ft will be given a burial from now on.
I hope more and more people, especially the higher authorities in irrigation, water management, etc., resort to the use of metric units which are very simple being always in multiples of 10.
I have been a stickler for the use of metric units in all walks of daily life.
By the way, 1,000 litres is also called one cubic meter (1mx1mx1m). So, when dealing with very large quantities of water or other liquids, printing space can be economised by using cubic meters thus saving 3 zeros.
Thus, 204 crore litres is equal to 2.04 billion litres or 2.04 million cubic metres etc.
