H.V. Rajeev Sneha Balaga to distribute one lakh saplings; CM to inaugurate

Mysore/Mysuru: City-based H.V. Rajeev Sneha Balaga, under the leadership of former MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev, is set to kickstart the distribution of one lakh saplings among Mysureans, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other dignitaries in attendance on June 8.

Collaborating with various associations, the Balaga has been actively organising programmes to foster afforestation by distributing approximately 25,000 saplings to the public, institutions, and organisations.

Since 2019, they have provided neem, peepal, banyan, mahogany and other saplings, which have been planted in and around Mysore Airport, numerous schools and colleges, H.D. Kote Main Road, hospitals, parks and various other locations.

Before distributing the saplings, the Balaga ensures they reach a height of about 7-8 feet, ensuring their robustness. On June 8, the organisation aims to distribute roughly 15,000-20,000 saplings.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Rajeev highlighted the importance of environmental conservation.

He emphasised that while many people talk about conservation and saving the environment, it is crucial for at least 5 percent of them to actively plant saplings in their immediate neighbourhood.

“People need to recognise that our survival is intricately linked to the surrounding environment. Therefore, maintaining ecological balance should be a top priority,” he added.

Rajeev also noted that several institutions and Government agencies, such as Mysuru City Corporation, MUDA, NGOs and educational institutions, have been procuring saplings for plantation on their premises.

Additionally, the former MUDA Chairman recommended planting saplings of trees native to forests in urban areas to mitigate the risk of falling trees during heavy rains and winds, thereby promoting ecological resilience.
