Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Botany, in collaboration with Clean and Green Campus Committee of St. Philomena’s College, had organised a transformative guest lecture on ‘Impact of Invasive Species on Local Indigenous Flora’ at its premises in city recently.
The event also marked the launching of ‘Campus Flora of St. Philos,’ a website created with joint efforts of students and faculty. Retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer A.C. Lakshman, Principal Dr. Ravi J.D. Saldanha and in-charge HOD Jeevitha Saldanha inaugurated the e-flora Website.
To understand the importance of managing the invasive species, which pose a significant threat to the ecosystems worldwide, disrupting natural balance and biodiversity, leading to a cascade of ecological consequences, a guest lecture was delivered by retired IFS Officer Lakshmana. His acumens on invasive species and his experiences in its mitigation was commendable. His adventurous life and experience captivated the audience during the event.
The session facilitated meaningful dialogue and collaboration among participants, fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities and opportunities surrounding invasive plant species. The event also marked a significant step towards fostering biodiversity management and conservation within the college community.
