Liquor, cash flow unabated ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Mysore/Mysuru: On one hand, the ensuing Lok Sabha elections is witnessing a hectic campaigning by the candidates of prominent political parties, while on the other hand, there has been an unabated attempt to woo voters with cash and liquor.

This is evident with the seizure of liquor valued at several crores of rupees stocked at the depots of Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) and other places and huge amount of cash being seized at the check-posts opened in view of the elections.

Along with liquor and money, there are also reports about seizure of ganja worth several lakhs of rupees by the Police.

Recently, beer and Indian Made Liquor (IML) were seized in large quantity at the Lok Sabha Constituencies in the jurisdiction of Bengaluru, with most of the seizures reported from KSBCL depots. It has set the tongues wagging about the good old ways of winning over the voters offering them free liquor to the last dreg.

To specify, in Bangalore Central LS Constituency, beer was seized at various places; Rs. 23.46 lakh worth at Kammasandra, Rs. 49.88 lakh worth at K.G. Halli, Rs. 46.14 lakh worth at Kadugondanahalli and Rs. 77.31 lakh worth at Inland Container Depot.

Similarly in Bangalore South LS Constituency, Rs. 34 lakh worth beer was seized at Hongasandra and Rs. 46.14 lakh worth beer at Madanayakanahalli in Chikkaballapura LS Constituency. While beer worth Rs. 27.43 lakh was seized on Ballari Main Road in Bangalore North LS Constituency limits.

The other types of liquor have been seized from Bangalore Central LS seat, with estimated worth of Rs. 89.25 lakh, followed by Doddakammanahalli in Bangalore Rural LS seat where Rs. 55.62 lakh worth liquor was seized, Tamaka Industrial Area in Kolar LS Constituency Rs. 76.86 lakh worth and Bagalkot LS Constituency where Rs. 59 lakh worth liquor was seized, with the total value of liquor seized including beer and IML estimated at Rs. 7.5 crore.

The Flying Squad Team (FST) personnel deputed on duty at Jayanagar in Bangalore South LS Constituency have seized unaccounted cash of Rs. 1.35 crore, followed by Rs. 20 lakh at Robertsonpet in Kolar Constituency and Rs. 12.49 lakh at Koganahalli in Belagavi.

Besides, Rs. 10 lakh worth ganja has been seized from each of Bangalore South and Kolar LS Constituencies, according to the latest reports.
