Loan against gold for less interest: N’gud Cops arrest couple for snatching gold ornaments

January 29, 2022

Nanjangud: Nanjangud Police have arrested a couple for snatching away gold ornaments weighing 45 grams from another couple.

The accused had asked the couple to come to Hullahalli with the gold ornaments after promising them that they would get them gold loan for a very less interest rate from a bank there.

The accused are Prasad and his wife Bhagya, residents of Hangala village in Gundlupet taluk, while the couple, who lost their gold jewellery is Shivamani and Basavanna, residents of Mottha village in the taluk.

The accused couple, who had come to Mottha village on Jan. 24, met Shivamani and Basavanna couple and told them that they would get them gold loan for less interest from a bank so that they (Shivamani and Basavanna) can build their house. The accused then told the couple to bring their gold jewellery to Hullahalli on Jan. 25 so that they could get the loan from the bank.

Believing them, Shivamani and Basavanna came to Hullahalli and met the accused, who in turn asked Shivamani to give them the gold so that they could proceed to the bank for getting loan.

But when Shivamani insisted that she too will come along with them, Bhagya held Shivamani’s hands, while Prasad snatched away the pouch from Shivamani containing gold ornament and sped away on a scooter in a blink of an eye. Though Shivamani’s husband Basavanna, tried to follow the accused, they had sped away, following which they lodged a complaint with Hullahalli Police.

Nanjangud Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar, said that Hullahalli Police have arrested the accused within 24 hours of the crime and added that the Police are interrogating the couple to know whether they are involved in similar cases.
