Long weekend rush: City records more than 2.5 lakh tourist footfalls

Mysuru: While Mysuru city witnessed huge tourist inflow during the long weekend, most of the tourists struggled to find rooms with the lodges being fully booked from Apr. 29 to May 1.

Apart from the hotel industry, which witnessed a good business during the long weekend holidays, tourist places in city especially the Mysuru Zoo, Mysore Palace and Chamundi Hill witnessed a good footfall with more than 2.5 lakh tourists visiting the city.

Mysore Palace, one of the important tourist places in city recorded 83,436 visitors which fetched Rs. 34,42,787 revenue from Apr. 28 to May 1.

Mysore Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya speaking to SOM said that on Apr. 28, 10,056 tourists visited the Palace fetching them a revenue of Rs. 4,30,042. Apr. 29: 17,217 visitors which fetched Rs. 7,16,381 revenue. Apr. 30: 30,022 visitors – Rs. 12,32,718 revenue and on May 1: 26,141 visitors visited the Palace fetching a revenue of Rs. 10,63,646.

Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) Chairperson Mallige Veeresh, said that a total of 74,741 visitors visited the Zoo from Apr. 29 to May 1 which fetched Rs. 44,31,772 revenue on these three days.

She said that while 16,752 visitors visited the Zoo on Apr. 29 fetching a revenue of Rs. 9,66,655, Apr. 30 recorded 31,519 visitors which fetched Rs. 18,81,755 and added that 26,470 visitors visited the Zoo on May 1 which fetched Rs. 15,83,365 as revenue.

Chamundi Hill too witnessed huge rush from Apr. 29 to May 1. According to Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Executive Officer Prasad, more than 1.5 lakh tourists including devotees thronged the temple on these three days fetching a total revenue of Rs. 17,36,010.

He said that Rs. 3,55,380 was collected on Apr. 29, Rs. 6,98,030 on Apr. 30 and Rs. 6,82,600 was collected on May 1.

Huge rush was also witnessed at Sri Srikanteshwara Temple in Nanjangud on Apr. 30 and May 1.

According to Temple Executive Officer Jayaprakash, more than 1.5 lakh tourists and devotees visited the temple on these two days, which fetched a revenue of Rs. 19 lakh through sale of Special Entry tickets and laddus.
