Make Mar. 26 ‘Bharat Bandh’ a grand success: Farmer leader

March 17, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 Farmers’ Unions, has planned ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Mar. 26.

Mar. 26 marks the completion of four months of the ongoing farmers protest at the Delhi borders — started on Nov. 26.”We seek your full cooperation and solidarity to make the day a success,” said Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene’s collective leader Chukki Nanjundaswamy.

Addressing reporters at Pathrakarthara Bhavan recently, she drew attention to thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh who have been camping at the Delhi border points for over four months demanding the repeal of farm laws and a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.

“The protest started on the ‘Constitution Day’ on Nov. 26 and the ‘Bharat Bandh’ has been called to intensify the protest.

On Mar. 19, a ‘Raitha Huthathma Samsmarana Divas’ will be held in Bengaluru and to intensify the protest, ‘Maha Panchayats’ have been organised on Mar. 20 at Shivamogga, on Mar. 21 at Haveri, and on Mar. 31 at Belagavi,” she said.

Farmer leaders including Rakesh Tikait of SKM, Yuddhaveera Singh, Dr. Darshan Pal and others will participate. Chukki Nanjundaswamy said that talks are on with other pro-farmer organisations to make the Maha Panchayats a grand success.

Collective leaderships of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, Aikya Horata Karnataka, Samyukta Horata Karnataka, Akhanda Karnataka Raitha Sangha and Dalit, Labour and other Unions will be a part of the Maha Panchayats,  she added.
