Man wrongfully jailed but public silence is shocking

April 11, 2025

Sir,

This refers to the article titled “God Sees the Truth, But Waits!” At last, but swiftly, our beloved doctor and columnist, Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem, has expressed in his column (Star of Mysore dated Apr. 6, 2025) the heartfelt, tragic, unfortunate and unbelievable incident involving Suresh — who was arrested and kept in jail for two years as an undertrial for a crime he did not commit: The alleged murder of his wife, who is very much alive and living with her paramour, having abandoned her two young children.

This act of gross negligence and criminal misconduct should not go unpunished, regardless of who is responsible. It is shocking and disturbing that both the public and political leaders have remained silent about an incident that could happen to anyone.

Our Police and justice systems should hang their heads in shame over this incident. Even social media has shown only a meek response, and society remains as silent as if deaf, dumb and blind. Will justice ever be served for this poor man?

I sincerely appreciate social activist and lawyer Pandu Pujari for stepping in to help him. This incident should have sparked public outrage and drawn strong reactions from Opposition parties.

One can only imagine the mental, physical and social agony endured by this innocent man. One must hope that there still exists some sense of sympathy and empathy for such injustices — at least in the form of public protest.

– Dr. D.N. Swamy, Mysuru, 9.4.2025
