Manipal Hospital celebrates World Heart Day in city

3D Art on Heart Health, Life-Saving BLS Training and Climbathon held

Mysuru: Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, commemorated World Heart Day-2024, by hosting a series of events from Sept. 27 to Oct. 2 under the guidance of Dr. Upendra Shenoy, Chief of Medical Services and Pramod Kunder, Hospital Director.

The primary aim of these activities was creating awareness in the community about heart health, healthy lifestyle and promote life-saving skills.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Upendra Shenoy said, “On World Heart Day, we emphasise the critical importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Our commitment is to support and guide our community toward better heart health.”

Pramod Kunder said, “Heart health is not just about treating disease. Regular check-ups, controlling risk factors and adopting healthy lifestyles can significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks.”

The events commenced with the installation and unveiling of 3D Mural Art dedicated to Heart Health at Chamundi Hill on Sept.27. The initiative was led by artist Badal Nanjundaswamy known for spot art installations.

The painting reveals its full image only when viewed from a distance, features a vibrant red heart symbolising the fight against unhealthy habits like smoking, alcohol addiction and obesity. The art acts as a powerful reminder to prioritise cardiovascular wellness. The creative initiative attracted visitors and residents alike, fostering conversations around heart health through artistic expression.

Sept.29 also saw continuation of the installation of 3D Mural Art to promote heart health awareness at Nexus Mall. The event was supported by Shree Kumar Mohan, Centre Head of Nexus Mall, highlighting the collaborative effort to promote health awareness in the community.

Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop was held at H. Kempe Gowda Sports Complex, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), on Sept. 30.

Dr. N. Rakesh, Consultant Intensivist at Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, conducted the workshop, training approximately 1,500 students and faculty members in essential life-saving skills.

Joining the event were distinguished dignitaries from VVCE  including Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda, Principal, Dr. T.P. Surekha, Dean – Student Welfare and P.T. Sowmya, Coordinator.

The final event  on Oct.2 saw participants gathered at Chamundi Hill for an early morning Climbathon, officially flagged off by Dr. C.B. Keshavamurthy.

The enthusiastic team of over 200 climbers was joined by representatives from the Chamundi Hill Gram Panchayat, including Chairperson Nagamma, PDO Rupesh, Vice-President Y.S. Ravikumar, members K. Bharat, C. Manjunath, Shambhulinga, Ambika, Sujata and Tulsi.
