Manipal Hospital conducts Mega Blood Donation Camp

April 9, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: On the occasion of World Health Day, Manipal Hospital, Mysore, had organised a Mega Blood Donation Campaign in association with Jeevadhara Blood Bank at five locations — Manipal Hospital Mysore, Forum Centre City Mall, MIT College, Manipal City Clinic above Excel Diagnostic Centre, Saraswathipuram and Karnataka State Pollution  Control Board.

The aim of the campaign was to encourage people on the concept of blood donation and to cater to the need of blood requirement in Mysuru.

Blood is very essential and frequently required for various procedures and instances in the hospital. It plays a vital role in case of severe loss of blood during accidents, injury, blood disorders like cancer, fewer blood cells, organ transplantation and surgeries. Every month the hospital requires 100s of units of packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelets.

As blood can only be donated and not manufactured, bridging the gap between donor and recipient was of utmost importance. The hospital diligently handled it by organising a blood donation camp.

The camp went on smoothly as the doctors and paramedic team were ensuring the safety of the people and guided them through the process.

Centre Head of Forum City Centre Mall Dhanasekaran Ramachandran said, “Blood donation is the noble act of saving numerous unknown lives” and called upon more people to participate.

Creating an awareness on the health benefits of donating blood, Dr. Gautam Das, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital, said “The blood donated is regenerated in the body within 4-8 weeks, and it not only saves lives but also improves the health of the donor. Many people voluntarily came forward  and donated blood.”
