MCC to ease drinking water crisis in city

April 26, 2019

Deploys 42 water tankers during this summer

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has deployed 42 water tankers to supply drinking water to affected areas of the city this summer.

Following complaints of disruptions in water distribution system in the past one month, MCC has been supplying water through Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW).

Speaking to Star of Mysore, MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag said that areas outside Outer Ring Road, pockets of upper areas including Vijayanagar, Kyatamaranahalli,  Vidyanagar, Alanahalli are severely affected. However, MCC has taken all measures to ease the crises by supplying water through tankers to these areas, she added.

She further said that 250 MLD of water from Cauvery and Kapila Rivers was being pumped from all Pumping Stations daily but only 180 MLD of water is reaching the city. Nearly 15% of water is lost during purification process.

Steps have been taken to prevent water leakage from the water pipes from the water treatment plants to city, she said and added that plugging of leakage points in the pipeline would be taken up immediately if found.

Works on laying of new pipeline has been taken up from Melapura Pumping Station to Mysuru city which would help to get an additional 8 MLD of water to ease the drinking water problem, the MCC Commissioner said and added that pumping of water has not been stopped due to the works besides stating that all the pumps in the pumping stations were in good condition..
