July 26, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) has named cricket tournament organised annually as part of the Journalists Sports Meet after late K.B. Ganapathy (KBG), Founder-Editor of Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra, who passed away on July 13.

Presiding over the inaugural event of the 2-day Annual Sports Meet for Journalists at University of Mysore (UoM) Athletic Grounds (Oval Grounds) this morning, MDJA President K. Deepak said that the Association had decided to name cricket tournament as ‘KBG Cup’ as a tribute to KBG’s contribution to journalism and his affection towards sports.

Earlier, in his inaugural address, UoM Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. N.K. Lokanath spoke about the importance of sports for both physical and mental fitness. “Journalists, who are often seen working under stressful environment, coming together to get involved in sports activities is delightful. While winning is not important, participation is important and both winning and losing should be treated equally. Activities like these will help in building co-ordination within the members,” he added.

KSCA Mysuru Zone Convenor R.K. Harikrishna Kumar, UoM’s Department of Physical Education Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, Maharani’s First Grade College’s Department of Physical Education Director Dr. Bhaskar, MDJA Gen. Secretary Dharmapura Narayan, MDJA Executive Committee Members and others were present.
