Mysore/Mysuru: District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. K.H. Prasad has said that the role of media is big in reaching the programmes of Health and Family Welfare Department to people and creating awareness to maintain a good health.

DHO Dr. Prasad spoke during a workshop on ‘The Role of Media in Reaching Government’s Programmes, Health Programmes to People’ organised by the Health and Family Welfare Department and Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA), at a private hotel in city recently.

Due to the precautionary measures taken by the department and workability of officers and staff, there is a fall in mother and child mortality rates. This achievement can be attributed to quality service being provided with required basic infrastructural facilities at maternity hospitals and the service of ASHA workers, who have been keeping a tab on pregnant women and rendering service with concern even after the delivery,  said Dr. Prasad.

“The best of health services is being effectively provided to the people due to the media giving enormous publicity on the implementation of services and programmes of Health and Family Welfare Department. The Department is inspired to work in a better way due to the co-operation and co-ordination of all the Departments, local authorities and elected representatives,” said Dr. Prasad.

Mayor Shivakumar inaugurated the workshop and said that “Various programmes like Namma Clinic, Pink Clinic and Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka implemented by the Government to better the health should be judiciously used by the people.  Let the service continue to fulfil the opinions of the people who believe ‘Vaidyo Narayano Harih’ (Doctors are God).”

Dr. M.S. Jayanth, Reproductive and Child Health Officer (RCHO), spoke on ‘Mother and Child Health’, District TB Control Officer Dr. Siraj Ahmed on ‘Eradication of Tuberculosis (TB)’ and District Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer Dr. Chidambara, District Leprosy Control Officer Dr. Manjuprasad and District Surveillance Officer Dr. Mahadeva Prasad spoke on ‘Spread of diseases by mosquitoes.’

MDJA President S.T. Ravikumar (RK), General Secretary M. Subramanya, Block Health Education Officer Udaykumar, journalists and others participated in the workshop.
