MLA’s ‘missing’ daughter emerges as newly-wed

March 9, 2018

Mysuru: Bengaluru and Mysuru Police went into a tizzy yesterday after an MLA complained that his daughter had gone missing. But a probe proved otherwise: She had walked out of her home on her own will and got married to a film producer.

The girl, Lakshmi S. Naik (24), released a WhatsApp video yesterday afternoon, claiming she was a major and had married her friend Sundar Gowda, producer of Kannada film Mastigudi. She is the daughter of Mayakonda MLA (Congress) K. Shivamurthy Naik.

Police swung into action on Wednesday evening after the MLA and his wife Geeta informed Yelahanka New Town Police that their daughter had gone missing. The cops learnt that Lakshmi had gone to Mysuru and alerted their counterparts in the heritage city. Several hotels were searched but in vain.

The Police traced Sundar Gowda’s relatives at a resort on Mysuru-Madikeri Road and they gathered information that their wedding is scheduled atop Chamundi Hill. A 40-member team of Police personnel, accompanied by the girl’s mother, rushed to the resort for investigation only to find out that it was a trick to mislead them.

Later, the Police questioned the resort employees as they were not ready to believe that Lakshmi and Gowda weren’t there. They checked the footage of the CCTV cameras only then were they convinced that the girl was not there. They later left towards Nagamangala in Mandya district after learning that the marriage was being held there.

While this was the scene in Mysuru, the couple were at Dakshina Kannada and had tied the knot in a temple there. Later photographs of her marriage with Gowda were flashed on TV channels. In the video, she said: “I and Sundar Gowda like each other and we left home on our own wish. I married him and will be very happy.”

S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast division Bengaluru) said: “We have registered a missing case and tried to trace her. Later, we learnt she married a film producer on her own. We can’t do anything as she is already a major.”
