Mysore/Mysuru: Noted Kannada Orator Hiremagalur Kannan, who is popularly known as ‘Kannadada Pujari’, will be conferred ‘Muddurama award’ while Choupadi writer M. Muthuswamy will be honoured with ‘Muddurama Puraskara’ at a programme organised under the aegis of Muddrama Pratishtana, Mysuru at Navajyothi auditorium in JSS Women’s College premises, Saraswathipuram at 4.15 pm on July 23.
Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion. Noted columnist Dr. Gururaj Karajagi and Humorist Prof. M. Krishnegowda will be the chief guests. Veteran scholar Dr. T.V. Venkatachala Sastry will preside. Hiremagalur Kannan’s book ‘Muddurama Lahari’ and Shwetha Prakash’s work ‘Padma Pallava’ (a collection of Chaupadis) will be released on the occasion.
The ‘Muddurama award’ carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a citation, while ‘Muddurama Puraskara’ carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and a citation.
Hiremagalur Kannan has earned name and fame through his programmes in Doordarshan and Akashvani. Though Tamil is his mother-tongue, he mastered Kannada and learnt Vedas and Upanishads in Sanskrit. Dedicating himself for the cause of Kannada, Kannan is also proficient in English and Hindi languages.
Chaupadi writer M. Muthu-swamy is a teacher by profession and a poet by passion. After serving as a school teacher for over 25 years, he is into scripting Muktaka Sahitya and writing Chaupadis. He has written many books on Muktaka Sahitya and has been providing platforms for budding poets to showcase their talent.
