Music Varsity’s Gurukula to come up in Hunsur

March 10, 2017

The Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal University for Music and Performing Arts has submitted a requisition to the State Government for the sanction of funds to take up the construction of ‘Gurukula’ at Hunsur.

The University has been allotted 65 acre land on Survey Number 155 for the construction of the proposed Gurukula with hostel facilities. Though the State Government had announced the Music University a decade back, it lacked the administrative building and a campus. The Government had permitted for the allotment of land on Mar. 21, 2012 and subsequently the land was sanctioned on Apr. 9, 2012.

Though, the land was allotted around five years back, the University has not been able to protect its land by taking up fencing works. Now, the University has submitted a proposal and a blueprint for the sanction of funds to construct the campus at Dharmapura in Hunsur. It is expected that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah might announce the budgetary allocations for the University in the State Budget.

Music University already has Rs. 10 crore in its account and the Minister has promised to sanction Rs. 20 crore from the State Government and it also expects to raise funds from the donors, said Registrar Niranjana Vanalli.

Administrative Building: The Music Varsity also aims at constructing administrative building on the 8 acre land allotted to the University at Satagalli on the outskirts of city.

No Registrar: For any University it is important to have Registrar (Evaluation). But the post in the Music University has been vacant for the past eight months.

Moreover, the jobs of the teaching and non-teaching staff has not been regularised.
