Mysureans have preserved culture and art: Sudha Murty

December 3, 2018

Mysuru: The Maharajas of Mysore have planted the seeds of culture, art, painting, dance and other art forms. Including the Seers of Suttur Mutt, the people of Mysuru have carefully nurtured this lineage which is really something to be proud of, said Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty, who inaugurated the JSS Music Fest.

The people have not only protected this culture but also have spread it to other parts of the country and abroad. When we travel outside and when the people there say that they listen to Karnatak and Hindustani classical music, our heart swells and this feeling has also been experienced by me, she said.

If today we are speaking pure Kannada then it is not wrong to say that it is due to the contribution of Mysore rulers. Since I am in the literary field, I do not have much knowledge about music. But I have an ear to listen to it. However, since there is direct connect between literature and music, it gives peace of mind when one listens to music, felt Sudha Murty.

In Mysuru region more importance is given to Karnatak music and in Hubballi-Dharwad it is for Hindustani music. Hence, even Mysuru should encourage Hindustani music, she suggested.
