Mysuru-Kushalnagar four-lane Highway gets fund sanction

February 9, 2023

New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced grants for a slew of National Highway projects for Karnataka, which goes to polls before May this year.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, Gadkari sanctioned funds for the construction of access-controlled four-lane road with paved shoulder from Mysuru to Kushalnagar section of National Highway (NH)-275 near Guddehosur at the start of Kushalnagar bypass in Mysuru district, for which a budget of Rs. 909.86 crore has been sanctioned.

In addition, the Minister announced the construction of access-controlled four lanes with paved shoulders from Mysuru to Kushalnagar section of NH-275 at Yelachenahalli near Yelwal-K.R. Nagar Road junction to Srirangapatna bypass in Mysuru district with a budget of Rs. 739.39 crore.

Connecting Expressway

The four-lane 93-km Srirangapatna-Guddehosur National Highway will run parallel to existing NH-275 and will be constructed in two packages — from Srirangapatna to Periyapatna and Periyapatna to Guddehosur. The Highway will start from Bramhapura between Paschimavahini and Naguvanahalli near Srirangapatna and end at Anekadu near Kushalnagar. It will link Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway.

The expanded Highway will provide smooth connectivity and seamless travel from Bengaluru to Kushalnagar and people will be greatly benefited as the existing National Highway 275 has already reached its saturation point.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha have thanked Nitin Gadkari for approving the funds for the project. Earlier, Pratap Simha had on several occasions appealed to the Union Finance Ministry to grant funds for the Mysuru-Kushalnagar Highway, estimated to cost Rs. 4,000 crore.

Raitha Sangha opposes project

However, the National Highway expansion project has gained stiff opposition from the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), which has questioned the ‘self-interest’ of Pratap Simha in the project.

KRRS State President Badagalapura Nagendra had said that at a time when farmers are suffering from land loss due to various development projects and at a time when tobacco farmers of Mysuru region are facing severe distress, their elected MP is hell-bent on bringing in more Highways. “What is Pratap Simha’s personal interest in the project,” he had questioned earlier.

“Instead of widening the existing NH-275, an entirely new project has been taken up and this was unnecessary as over 1,200 acres of fertile land will be acquired for the project,” he had said, raising objections to the land acquisition process for the project.

If it could be extended next all the way till mangalore it will be good for people who are native of Dakshin Kanada and Udupi districts who live in Mysuru.Government is also planning to promote coastal tourism in Karnataka so both Coorg and Mysuru can get tourists via Mangalore. International Airport.

Why stop at this? Why not have many highways like Wayanad-Nanjangud-Mysore higghway, Hassan-Keral Highway linking with Kodagu etc.. etc..
There is a huge pressure on Modi and his government coming from the Kerala CM, for a railway tunnel under Bandipur forest, which the moustached idiot Bommai refused, but Modi will sanction it.
Modi has assured the Keralite businessmen settled in the UAE, that he will approve UAE-Mysore direct no-stop flights once the Mysore airport gets expanded and is able to receive A320/737 medium haul passenger jets. These so called businessmen are the ones who are smuggling gold into Kerala now, and want to expand their smuggling gold and its distribution operations to Mysore and beyond through the Mysore-Bangalore Highway. These Keralite crime bosses, masquerading as businessmen are also expanding their Hawaala money operations into Mysore through the existing Wayanad-Nanjangud-Mysore corridor. They have purchased warehouses and buildings in Mysore ready to expand their operations.
These highways are a boon to them!
The armed robbery reported in the Mysore-Bangalore highway recently and the armed robbery of Mysore jewellery store 2 years ago will be kind of criminal activities one would witness within months.

Why no Yelwal K.R.Nagar highway was not thrown open to public. It will reduce the distance for Mysore Hassan travelers. What is the problem here? Where is that big talk MP Lion…?

  4. Neil says:

The authorities had removed multiple speed-breakers from this highway. However, I observed them back again at a village after Yelwal put up without any marking or advance warning to motorists.
Enen a 10-lane highway is useless if there are speed-breakers and lack of lame discipline.

  5. Samarth N says:

No talks about connectivity between Mysuru and Hassan .This is not fair .

  6. satish says:

Already Western ghats are cut and buried with so many projects and pipelines, why stop at this, and continue even more right? The only people getting rich are contractors from these highway projects. Highways that pass through sensitive areas have to be thought of 10 times, it’s not about the money it’s the biological ecosystem that once destroyed cannot be brought back.
Even in projects like yettinahole same thing was done. even though the project doesn’t meet the requirement it was sanctioned just to fill the pockets of politicians and contractors.

Good work by central govt and it’s proof developing INDIA

  8. Pkn says:

Mysore Kannur railway service should be started via kushalnagar.
