Mysuru: The Union Government has approved to provide air connectivity to five prominent cities from Mandakalli Airport, under its Ude Desh ka Aam Nagarik (UDAN)-3.
As per the initiative, six aircrafts will fly between Mysuru and five other cities — Hyderabad, Belagavi, Panaji, Kochi and Bengaluru, while two aircrafts will fly to Hyderabad, there will be one flight each to Belagavi, Kochi, Panaji and Bengaluru.
Three airline operators –Alliance Airline, Turbo Megha and Indigo Airlines have come forward to offer the services.
MP Pratap Simha said the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has approved to operate flights to the five cities under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). The flights will start operating in a couple of months, he said and added that he has thanked PM Narendra Modi and the Civil Aviation Minister for the same.

No exact dates when this will start and other details.
With Elections approaching I would not be surprised if its temporary schedule (if at all it starts at first place) and gets closed with standard reason ‘lack of Air passengers numbers’.
Thanks to Pratap Simha for providing Air connectivity to mysore with other major cities of south India, As i am a NRE i would definitely try to reach mysore by air from any of the cities like Blr, Chennnai, Hyderabad, Cochin who have good International Air connectivity, We will be very delighted if this order is executed on priority without any delay.
As elections approach, non-viable and fake dreams are sold. Will these promises have any real advantage? Mysore has two international airports close by, Bangalore and Kochi. So instead of wasting money on the Mandakalli Airport, our MP should have worked on real connectivity to Mysore. Airlines often calculate a load factor at which the airline will break even; this is called the break-even load factor. Mysore does not have that capacity forcing airlines to discontinue.
Trains would be the better alternative as the load factor can be resolve by connecting station. For example a train leaving Mysore to Delhi need to be full at Mysore itself, where as a flight has to be occupied atleast 50% depending upon the airline.
With trains connectivity of other locations can also be taken care. We don’t have a direct train to Dehradun, Amritsar or Rishikesh even from Bangalore. Hence a train to these location via Bangalore would have address our local need (more connectivity to Bangalore) as well direct connectivity to these locations from various part of state.
Mysore should have a flight originating from Bengaluru or Kochi/Kannur and ending at either place. This will be helpful for international travelers from anywhere from world travel to Mysore using gulf carriers like emirates and jet airways.
Mysore , a wonderful city in India, should have been air-linked long ago. we citizens should appreciate the genuine effort being put by our MP, Mr. Pratap Simha in bringing Airconnectivity to Mysore. It is a paradox, the more the road lanes to Bangalore, the more becomes the travel time. So there cannot be a better alternative than air connectivity at the present times.
