Mysore/Mysuru: Nadavidyalaya – Academy of Music and Dance celebrated its 18th year Nadopasana-24 Karnatak Classical Vocal Concert on June 23 at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar.
Academy’s Karnatak Vocal students, in all 45 budding talents, took part in the programme under the guidance and direction of Guru Vidwan Naveen M.S. Andagar.
The programme was an innovative presentation of both melody and meticulous information. ‘Nadopasana’ opened the door of the Dasa Sahitya of Dasavarenyas.
Narrating the life history, the moral values, way of conveying the social and puranic stories, ethics, bhakthi path followed by the Dasa Shreshtas, lyrical literature that are straight forward, easy to understand made the audience go to the world of ecstasy. Songs that were selected by Dasa Sahitya were Pillari geethes in Raaga malahari, Sanchari geethes in Mohana, Kambodi, Kalyani Aananda Bhairavi raagas composed by the great Saint Purandara Dasa.
Next was the jatiswaras in Raaga Kalyani set to Adi tala and Saveri raga set to Roopaka tala. Tana varnam in Shankarabharana ragam set to Adi tala composed by Sri Veene Kuppayar.
The programme followed a series of Devaranamas of various great saint poets or Dasavarenyas. Gajamukha vandisuve karunisi kaayo of Sripaadarajaru in Naata raga set to Khanda chapu tala. Yare rangana composed by Purandara Dasaru in raga Hindola set to adi tala, Pilangoviya Chelva Krishnana composed by Purandaradasaru in Raga mihana raga in Tristan nade adi tala, Narayanate namo namo devaranama penned by Purandara Dasaru in Brindavani adi tala, Ninna maganene gopi composed by Vyasarayaru set to Sumaneshuranjani raga & mishrachapu tala. Lastly, Hari kunida namma hari kunida devaranama composed by Purandara Dasaru in Raaga malayamaarutha set to adi tala.
The full packed audience as well as the auditorium resonated with bhakti & bhava.
In the Musical Ensemble, students of the Academy were accompanied by Guru Sangeetha Vidwan Naveen Andagar on keyboard; Vid. Shantakumar on violin, Vid. Dasappa on mridanga and Yeashas N. Kashyap on flute.
Vidu. Meera Manjunath, Artistic Director of Kala Sourabha Music School, Mysuru and Dr. M.D. Sudarshan, Assistant Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, Mysuru, were the guests of honour.
Sinchana & Deekshitha were the Master of Ceremonies. Department of Kannada & Culture, Govt. of Karnataka & Ministry of Culture sponsored the programme.
