Niranthara Ranga Utsava draws to a close

Niranthara Ranga Utsava, a five-day theatre fest, organised by the city’s Nirantara Foundation, in association with Kannada and Culture Department, at Vanaranga in Rangayana premises here, drew to a close yesterday.

The event was dedicated to the former Cuban President Fidel Castro, a revolutionary who believed that homeland was where humanity existed.

The five-day theatre fest featured plays that depicted the current political and social scenarios and as well as the developments in the society — ‘Barigida’ enacted by Dharwad-based ‘Aata-Maata’ troupe, ‘Chekov to Champagne’ enacted by artistes of Rangayana, Dharwad, ‘Neeru Kudisida Neereyaru’ performed by Bengaluru-based theatre group ‘Samashti’ and ‘Coriolanus’ performed by Tumari   Kinnara Mela.More than 4,000 theatre enthusiasts watched the plays over five-days.

The event also provided a platform for sharing the recent developments in the theatre through a newsletter titled ‘Maatukathe.’ Curtains came down on the exiting fest with Madhya Pradesh artiste Kaluram Bamaniya and team rendering Kabir songs, which earned huge applause from the gathering.

Social activist P. Mallesh, theatre artistes M.M. Suguna and K.S. Prabhakar and others                             were present.
