On draining rain water to UGD

November 24, 2021

Sir,

This is with reference to the news item in SOM dated Nov.17 wherein the MCC has directed all the house owners to channelise the rain water from the terrace to storm water drains and not into the UGD network.

Though it is a good idea, there are practical problems in executing the same. Many areas do not have storm water drains and even if it is there, it has become non-functional due to the negligence of the MCC, which only wakes up when there are heavy rains, like now, and directs the house owners to take immediate action or face penalty.

The MCC should survey all the localities first and ascertain the ground realities before issuing such a directive.
