Mysuru: Over 300 persons, including Police, Jail Warden trainees and public, took part in the Open Marathon organised by City Traffic Police as part of the 30th Road Safety Week celebrations in city this morning.

The Mysuru City Traffic Police has been observing the Road Safety Week under the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha’ from Feb.4 to sensitise the public on road safety measures.

DCP (Crime & Traffic) Dr. Vikram V. Amathe flagged off the Marathon at the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple premises, Palace North Gate, at 6.40 am.

The Marathon passed through K R. Circle, Devaraja Urs Road, JLB Road, Ramaswamy Circle, 100 feet Road, Gun House Circle, Hardinge Circle and returned to the starting point, after covering a distance of 5.2 kilometres.

Representatives from various Departments including Tourism, PWD, Transport, KSRTC, MCC, City Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Union, Lorry Drivers and Owners Association, NGOs and Young Indians were part of the awareness programme.

ACPs Gajendraprasad,  C. Gopal & Dharmappa, all Civil and Traffic Police personnel, Jail Warden trainees were present during the programme.  

Prize distribution  

Following are the winners of the Marathon: Men’s Division: Jail Warden trainee Nanu J. Nayak – 1st prize; SBRR Mahajana College Lecturer Cheluvegowda – 2nd and Jail Warden trainee Kumar – 3rd; Women’s Division: Jail Warden trainees L. Hemavathy,  Deepika Hattur and Ahalya won first, second and third prize respectively.
