Sir,
In western countries, there is a practice of ‘Daylight Saving Time’ by turning the clock ahead as warmer weather approaches and back as it becomes colder again. The goal of ‘Daylight Saving Time’ is to make better use of daylight by prolonging the amount of time people can spend outside during daylight hours. The reverse procedure is done in winter.
In contrast in our city and also elsewhere, we have the practice of spending electricity by extending the street-light even after sunrise. Surprisingly, in winter the street-lights are switched off very early before sunrise much to the inconvenience of early morning elderly walkers.
Since a month, I have been observing that the street-lights on Vishwamanava Double Road and the Ring Road would be still on even after sunrise in contrast to being switched off when it would be still dark in winter.
I had written letters on both the occasions to draw the attention of the authorities but to no avail. I once again appeal the authorities concerned to look into this aspect very seriously.
