Postal services hit as employees stage stir seeking fulfilment of demands

Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly opposing the Centre’s move to corporatise the Postal Department, Postal employees, under the banner of All India Postal Employees Union (AIPEU) staged a day-long stir today in city, in response to an  All India Postal strike call.

The striking employees staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office at Nehru Circle on Ashoka Road for some time, seeking fulfilment of their 20-point charter of demands.

As a result of the strike, Postal services in the city and district was largely affected as a majority of Postal workers stayed away from work.

Accusing the Government of attempting to corporatise the Postal Department in the form of Dak Mitra Scheme and Common Service Centre, the striking  employees urged the Centre to stop migration of Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) into India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), withdraw Road Transport Network (RTN), stop Nodal Delivery Centres of Parcels and Central Delivery Centres of Speed Post Letters, Scrapping of National Pension System (NPS) and restoration of Old Pension System (OPS), filling up of vacant posts in all cadres, regularisation of all casual/part-time/ full time casual labourers and introduction of five-day week in Postal, Railway Mail Service (RMS) and Mail Motor Service (MMS) offices, among others.

AIPUE  Mysuru district office-bearers N. Vanajaksha, N. Krishna, Kendagannaiah, H.G. Raju, R. Prashanth, M.N. Giridhar, C.R. Rangaswamy and others took part.
