Mandya: As a prelude to the Farmers Parliament (Raitha Samsadh) scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Nov. 20, a National-level Farmers’ Convention will be held on Sept. 22 at Pandavapura in Mandya district.
Addressing reporters here recently, MLA K. S. Puttannaiah said that around 170 farmer organisations across the country have joined hands to constitute the Akhila Bharatha Raitha Horata Samanvaya which fights for the rights of the farmers at the National-level.
The ‘Dakshina Bharatha Raitha Mukti Jatha,’ which began from Telangana on Sept. 16, will pass through Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and enter Karnataka on Sept. 22. A rousing reception will be accorded for the jatha at Gundlupet and a public meeting will be held at Pandavapura, he added.
The jatha, seeking implementation of recommendations made by the Swaminathan Report and total waiver of farm loans, will reach Bengaluru on Sept.23 and a convention will be organised at Shikshakara Sadan at 4 pm. The jatha will end at Ramleela Maidan in Delhi on Nov. 20.
