Mysuru: Hundreds of Dalits under the banner of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkar) staged a demonstration in front of the DC Office here on Aug.5 urging for a permanent solution to their never-ending problems.
Claiming that dalits were living under deplorable conditions even after 70 years of Independence, the protestors alleged that the Government officials were ignoring their plight.
Accusing the officials of failing to issue tilling letters to dalit farmers, they alleged that works on the construction of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan, Jagjivan Ram Bhavan and Valmiki Bhavan were going on at a slow pace. They also accused Nirmiti Kendra, PWD, Karnataka Land Army and ZP of executing poor quality works being carried out in slums and other dalit habitats.
Maintaining that the officials were lethargic in providing power connection to borewells and pumpsets, they demanded Title Deeds for sites allotted to Dalits, statutory benefits to Pourakarmikas, civic amenities in Dalit dwellings and installation of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar statue near Mini Vidhana Soudha in the city, among others. Earlier, the protestors took out a rally from Town Hall passing through Gandhi Square, Dufferin Clock Tower, D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road and Vinoba Road to reach the DC office.
DSS office-bearers Mavalli Shankar, Ningaraj Malladi, Karya Basavanna, Doddasiddu Hadanur, Bannahalli Somanna, Vasantha Honnenahalli and others took part in the protest.
