Mysuru: Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has urged the University of Mysore (UoM) to repair the walking path around Kukkarahalli Lake in city.

With UoM being the custodian of Kukkarahalli Lake, MGP Convenor D.V. Dayanand Sagar has urged Varsity Registrar to take action to repair the walking path.

“UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath has vast concern for the conservation of Kukkarahalli Lake, that is rich in natural resources. Following the demand of MGP activists and environmentalists, initiative has been taken to prevent flowing of sewage water to the Lake. We are hopeful that the Varsity authorities will support the efforts being undertaken to improve the total lake area. Along with this, the walkers and strollers also deserve basic amenities,” said Sagar.

The walking path that forms 4.5 km from the main entrance has turned inconvenient with stones displaced from the surface while at some points the path has turned treacherous.

The elderly persons are facing the brunt with unsuspecting few tripping and suffering minor injuries. If the bones suffer a dent at old age, the persons may naturally feel it difficult to walk, Sagar said.

Apart from the city residents, the tourists too visit the Lake for its pristine environs and behold the visual beauty in their eyes. The roofing sheet at the boating point is damaged and needs repair. The supporting metal pillars should be painted to make it attractive, added Sagar.
