Residents protest against opening of liquor shop in N.R. Mohalla

January 30, 2025

Mysuru: Opposing opening of a liquor shop at Maruthi Complex near Maruthi Circle in N.R. Mohalla, over 100 residents of the locality, a majority of them women, staged a protest at Maruthi Circle here this morning.

The protestors said that women, girls and children come to the milk diary near the proposed liquor shop to buy milk besides stating that there is a Rama Mandira within 100 mts from the proposed liquor shop.

Pointing out that there is a law stating that liquor shop cannot be opened within 500 mts from where Scheduled Tribe community people reside, the protestors alleged that the District Administration and the Excise Department has violated the rule which will cause problems to the residents.

They have urged the authorities to not give permission to open the liquor shop, failing which they warned of intensifying the protest.
