Rowdy-sheeter hacked to death

October 31, 2020

Mandya: A rowdy was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants near Basavanagudi 4th Cross, at Guttal in Mandya city yesterday.

According to Police, the deceased has been identified as Sumanth alias Kulli (22), a milk vendor and a resident of Swarnasandra in city. The incident occurred when he had gone on his two-wheeler to distribute milk to residents. At that time, three persons with full faced helmets came in two two-wheelers, waylaid him and attacked him with lethal weapons. Sumanth died on the spot.

The miscreants escaped from the scene leaving behind a two-wheeler. Later, the miscreants are said to have snatched away the scooter ridden by a girl who was passing in the next street at that time, according to sources.

District Superintendent of Police K. Parashuram said that Sumanth was involved in highway robbery cases and was declared a rowdy-sheeter by Mandya West Police Station.

After lockdown, Sumanth was working in a garment factory in Bengaluru. He was in love with a girl in Swarnasandra and had taken her to Bengaluru to marry her. A case had been registered with Bengaluru Police Station.

The SP said that the deceased had the habit of consuming liquor in bars and threatening other rowdies. However, the anti-social elements never bothered about him. In 2019, a gang of five rowdies including Jayanth, Pawan and Adarsh, had brutally assaulted him. The accused was not involved in any other case than that of highway robbery.

Sumanth came to Mandya from Bengaluru on Friday afternoon and got killed at the hands of rowdies. “We are suspecting involvement of some persons who were close to the deceased as they had passed on information about his coming to the city to his rivals,” the SP added.

Second incident

It may be mentioned here that this was the second case of rowdy sheeter being killed by rival gangs in the district. Last week, another rowdy was waylaid and done to death in a similar fashion near Srirangapatna town.
